Millions of Texans Could Lose Food Benefits if Shutdown Continues Past Oct. 27
TEXAS — The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) has confirmed that SNAP benefits for November will not be issued if the federal government shutdown continues past October 27. According to HHSC, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program relies on federal appropriations that are currently halted during the shutdown. If Congress fails to restore funding by the end of October, the state will not have authority to load November food benefits onto Lone Star Cards.

Babin requests pay to be withheld
East Texas - U.S. Rep. Brian Babin said he has requested that his congressional salary be withheld during the ongoing government shutdown. “If Democrats are forcing hardworking Americans, our troops, and federal law enforcement to go without pay during their reckless shutdown, then I will too,” Babin said in a statement. “I’ve asked for my own congressional pay to be withheld until the government reopens.”
