Groves Woman Identified in Fatal Highway 62 Crash; Buna Man Arrested for Intoxication Manslaughter

JASPER COUNTY — The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has identified the pedestrian killed in Tuesday night’s auto-pedestrian crash on State Highway 62 as 31-year-old Britany Esquivel of Groves.
According to DPS, the crash occurred at approximately 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 7, 2025, near County Road 826 in south Jasper County. Preliminary reports indicate that a 2014 Ford pickup was traveling north when it struck Esquivel, who was walking in the roadway.
The driver of the Ford, identified as 39-year-old Cody Clark of Buna, was not injured. DPS officials say Clark was arrested for Intoxication Manslaughter, a felony offense, and transported to the Jasper County Jail.
Esquivel was pronounced deceased at the scene by a Justice of the Peace.
The investigation remains ongoing under the direction of the Texas Department of Public Safety – Southeast Texas Region.
