DPS Identifies Driver in Saturday Crash on FM 252

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has released additional details regarding the one-vehicle crash that occurred Saturday afternoon, July 19, on Farm-to-Market Road 252 near County Road 352 in Jasper County.
According to DPS, the incident took place around 1 p.m. when a 2003 Ford Crown Victoria, driven by 30-year-old Devan Simmons of Kirbyville, was traveling southbound. Preliminary investigation indicates that Simmons was attempting to pass another vehicle at an unsafe speed when he lost control. The vehicle veered off the road to the left into the east ditch, then crossed back over and struck a tree on the opposite side of the roadway.
Simmons was not injured in the crash but was cited by troopers for traveling at an unsafe speed.
The incident remains under investigation, and no further information has been released at this time.
