JASPER, TX- The 15-year-old Jasper burglary suspect has finally turned himself in.
Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard said that the suspect was seen on May 15th in the act of burglarizing the logging equipment store on Hwy 190, just passed the DPS office but Deputies were unable to capture him. Until today. He had eluded capture for 15 days, and somehow always slipped out of their grasps despite numerous attempts to capture him.
When the boy first ran, Sheriff Havard spoke to his Aunt who said that when his mother gets home, she will bring him to the Sheriff's Office herself. Unfortunately that did not happen.
Havard spoke to the family a number of times, yet still the boy didn't surrender. Finally yesterday, Havard had had enough. "I called his Mama and told her that I was done. I want him in my office in the morning or I'm coming after him!" Havard said. Apparently that was the needed motivation, because this morning bright and early he turned himself in. The boy was escorted by his family to the Jasper County Jail. He is currently in Juvenile Detention awaiting arraignment.
Havard added that the boy now faces possible additional charges for evading arrest.
