Woman Arrested for Theft of Trailer from Kirbyville Business

A Bon Wier woman has been arrested in connection to the theft of a gooseneck trailer from a Kirbyville business, following a weeks-long investigation by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.

On June 19, 2025, deputies responded to Kemp Trailer Sales in Kirbyville after the business owner reported a theft. According to the report, a woman — later identified as Alnita Howard, 53, of Bon Wier — purchased a 24-foot gooseneck trailer for just over $10,000 using a personal check. It was later discovered that the check was not valid.

The owner made several attempts to recover payment after speaking with Howard by phone. Although she initially claimed she would return with the funds, she never followed through.

The case was turned over to JCSO Criminal Investigation Division (CID) investigators for further review. On July 11, 2025, investigators located both the stolen trailer and Howard at a residence off County Road 4065 in Bon Wier. The trailer was returned to the rightful owner, and Howard was taken into custody without incident.

She was transported to the Jasper County Jail and charged with Theft of Property ≥ $2,500 < $30,000, a State Jail Felony.

Howard is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Sheriff Chuck Havard commended the investigators and emphasized the department’s commitment to protecting local businesses, stating:

“We will do everything we can to find people that cheat our businesses out of money.”
