KIRBYVILLE, TX-

On Friday, July 18th, Kirbyville Police Officer Ashley Arce received a call from dispatch stating that 36-year-old Shaka Diaz Twine of Wiergate had busted the window out in his wife's car with her in it and began chasing her down the highway with the couples 5-year-old child in his vehicle. It was believed at the time that Twine also had a firearm with him.

Dispatch relayed to Arce that the woman was driving a grey Volkswagen SUV, and the suspect was chasing her in a black Dodge Ram truck. They were at the time of the call, passing the Kirbyville High School heading north bound. Arce said, "I told dispatch to tell her to continue towards the Police Department and we would be there waiting. When she arrived, the black Dodge Ram was still chasing her. She could not slow down once she reached the entrance of the parking lot because Twine's vehicle was too close to the rear of hers. They continued through the parking lot and turned onto the little alleyway next to the Police Department, and then came back onto the highway."

Once the wife passed, Officer Arce and Kirbyville Police Chief Paul Brister both drew their firearms on the Dodge as it came out of the alleyway and back onto S. Margaret beside the Police Department parking lot. Arce said that they motioned for Twine to pull into the parking, which he did.

Twine was ordered to get out of the vehicle with his hands up which he did without incident and was taken into custody. The mother then took possession of the child. The child was not injured and a CPS report will be made in reference to the safety of the child.

At that time, the mother requested that Twine not be sent to jail, however a witness, 43-year-old Jason Webb came to the police department to make a statement. Webb stated that while Twine was aggressively chasing his wife down the Highway, he became involved. According to Webb, at around 10 am on Hwy 96, the black truck was chasing the vehicle at approximate speeds of 90 mph with a child in the truck, and that the truck cut right in front of him and almost lost control.

Twine was arrested and transported to the Jasper County Jail without incident.

Twine was charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon with a bond of $25,000 and Abandonment/Endangering a Child/Criminal Neglect. That bond was set at $7,500. Twine has since been released.
