JASPER, Texas — Detectives with the Jasper Police Department’s Safe Streets Division, working alongside the Southeast Texas Violent Crime Task Force, apprehended a wanted parolee Monday afternoon following a brief vehicle pursuit through Jasper.

Around 3:00 p.m., investigators located a vehicle driven by Kenneth Mitchell Woods, who was wanted by the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles for violating parole on his original charge of Assault on a Peace Officer.

When officers attempted a traffic stop, Woods fled, prompting a short pursuit that was safely ended by Jasper PD’s Patrol Division. He was taken into custody without incident.

A handgun was discovered inside the vehicle and later linked to Woods. He now faces additional charges of Evading Arrest in a Motor Vehicle and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.

A female passenger was detained briefly but released at the scene with no charges filed.

Chief Garrett Foster praised the teamwork that led to the arrest, commending the professionalism of both the Safe Streets and Patrol divisions, as well as their cooperation with the regional task force.

“Thanks to their diligence and coordination, a wanted fugitive with a violent history toward law enforcement was safely taken off the streets,” Foster said. “This is another example of how interagency partnerships enhance public safety and help keep our community secure.”

The Jasper Police Department and the Southeast Texas Violent Crime Task Force continue to focus on proactive enforcement and regional cooperation to reduce crime across Southeast Texas.
