Update: Vehicle went head first into rain filled ditch, landing on its side in Kirbyville

At around 6:30 pm Tuesday, a driver in Kirbyville somehow ended up upside-down in the water filled ditch in front of the Family Dollar store.

Kirbyville Police Officer Gene Lily said that 67-year-old Thomas Hacker of Kirbyville was driving a 2011 Lincoln Navigator traveling Northbound on Hwy 96 and was traveling at an unsafe speed. It was storming and the roadway was wet causing Hacker to lose control of the vehicle and strike a power pole, knocking out a transformer and power to the store and several other locations.

Kirbyville Volunteer Fire Department assisted in maintaining the scene.

It wasn't long before the Hacker was out and on the sidewalk talking to police. He appeared to be uninjured.
