On Thursday morning, Kristopher Tayshaun Drayton Jr., 23, of Woodville, was formally arraigned on a manslaughter charge in connection with the May 27 shooting that claimed the life of 19-year-old Keniyah Brenae Williams, according to Jasper Police Chief Garrett Foster.
The arraignment comes days after Drayton transported Williams to Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound to the head. Police reports indicate the shooting occurred inside Drayton’s vehicle near the intersection of West Gibson and Main Street.
Drayton was taken into custody at the hospital and has been cooperating with investigators. The firearm believed to have been used was recovered at the scene.
The case remains under active investigation, with a formal autopsy pending to confirm investigative findings.
