BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — The search for 19-year-old Camila Mendoza Olmos has taken a tragic turn.
On Tuesday evening, December 30, 2025, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that a body matching Olmos’ description was discovered in a field near her home. While official identification is still pending, authorities say the circumstances are consistent with her disappearance.
Sheriff Javier Salazar stated that preliminary findings indicate the death may be self-inflicted, and investigators do not currently suspect foul play.
Discovery Details
According to the Sheriff’s Office, a joint search team made up of BCSO deputies and Federal Bureau of Investigation agents located the body between approximately 4:40 and 4:45 p.m. Tuesday in a field of tall grass near the intersection of Bent Canyon and FM 1560. The area is located just a few hundred yards from the Olmos residence.
Sheriff Salazar explained that investigators made a “conscious decision” to re-search that specific location after determining that thick brush and tall grass may have obstructed visibility during earlier searches.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner has not yet made an official identification. However, authorities confirmed the individual was wearing clothing consistent with what Camila Olmos was last seen wearing—a light blue hoodie, matching pajama bottoms, and white shoes.
Investigation Findings
Sheriff Salazar said investigators do not believe foul play is involved. He noted that there are indicators suggesting the death may have been self-inflicted.
A firearm was found near the body. In a detail newly released to the public, the Sheriff confirmed that a gun belonging to a relative had been reported missing from the Olmos home around the time of her disappearance. That information had previously been withheld to protect the integrity of the investigation.
An official determination regarding cause and manner of death, as well as positive identification, is expected within the next 24 to 48 hours.
Background on the Disappearance
Camila Olmos was last seen on surveillance footage leaving her home in the 11000 block of Caspian Springs around 7:00 a.m. on Christmas Eve, December 24. Authorities said she left without her phone or iPad.
Her disappearance prompted an extensive six-day search involving the FBI, Texas EquuSearch, and numerous local volunteers. Early concerns included the possibility of an abduction, which led to a CLEAR Alert being issued.
As the investigation progressed, the Texas Department of Public Safety later discontinued the CLEAR Alert following Tuesday’s discovery.
Sheriff Salazar has previously stated that investigators learned Olmos had been experiencing significant personal stress, including school-related issues and a recent breakup. Authorities indicated she may have been struggling with suicidal ideations prior to her disappearance.
