Updated information on officer involved wreck in Kirbyville

This is the official report of the officer involved accident in Kirbyville last night. DPS is still investigating.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers are investigating a crash on U.S. Highway 96 in Kirbyville, that occurred Saturday, January 6, 2024.
The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 6:45 p.m., a 2019 Dodge Charger, a Jasper County Patrol vehicle, was traveling south. It is reported that a 2016 Chevrolet pickup was traveling north in the turn lane and was struck by the Dodge as it made a turn into a local business.
The driver of the Dodge, identified as 28-year-old Officer Austin Guerrero of Nederland, was transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as 64-year-old Burk Cooper of Kirbyville, was not injured.
This is an active investigation, and no further information is available at this time.
