LUMBERTON, Texas — The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is bringing its child passenger safety campaign, Save Me with a Seat, to Lumberton on Friday, September 19, with a special event aimed at helping parents ensure their children are riding safely.

From 9 a.m. to noon at the Lumberton ESD Station #1, 228 Country Lane Drive, certified technicians will be on-site to check child car seats and help families make sure they are installed correctly.

This stop on TxDOT’s statewide tour will also feature an interactive “Are You Ready for Takeoff?” experience. Children will buckle into space-themed seats for a simulated launch and get to take home a keepsake photo. The goal, officials say, is to combine fun with a serious reminder: car crashes remain one of the leading causes of death for children.

The Safety Push

According to TxDOT, last year Texas saw an increase in the number of children under the age of 8 killed in crashes while not properly restrained. Officials hope this campaign — which coincides with National Child Passenger Safety Week (Sept. 21–27) — will raise awareness and encourage parents to double-check their seats.

“Correctly installing car seats, including boosters, is one of the best ways to keep children safe,” TxDOT leaders said. “It only takes a moment to buckle up, but it can make the difference of a lifetime.”

Drive Like a Texan

The Save Me with a Seat initiative is part of TxDOT’s broader “Drive Like a Texan: Kind. Courteous. Safe.” campaign, which encourages drivers to embrace both safety and responsibility on the road.
