Two women injured in Jasper wreck, one critically


The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a crash on U.S. Highway 96, at the intersection of Farm-to-Market Road 1007, that occurred today, November 7.

The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 12:14 p.m., a 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling north on U.S. 96, while a 2023 Chevrolet Equinox was traveling east on F.M. 1007. It is reported that the driver of the Equinox failed to yield to the Tahoe at the stop sign and pulled into its path, where it was struck on its driver's side.

The driver of the Tahoe, identified as 52-year-old Dawn Woods of Newton, was transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital via personal vehicle for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Equinox, identified as 69-year-old Linda Smith of Huntington, was transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

This is an ongoing investigation, and no further information is available.
