KIRBYVILLE, Texas — Two brothers were arrested late Saturday night after Jasper County deputies responded to reports of gunfire during a fight in Kirbyville.
According to Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard, deputies Gray, Roy, Morgan, and Kaylor, along with Kirbyville Police Officer Lilly, were dispatched around 10:52 p.m. on October 18 to the 3700 block of County Road 443 for a disturbance involving shots fired.
When officers arrived, they found Azion Mahathay, 21, and his brother, Brayden Mahathay, 19, reportedly fighting in the front yard. Investigators say both men admitted to firing shots into the air before allegedly pointing their firearms at one another.
Both were taken into custody and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon – Family/Household Member, a first-degree felony. They were transported to the Jasper County Jail.
Sheriff Havard emphasized that his office remains committed to addressing violent incidents and keeping Jasper County residents safe.
“We will continue to take proactive steps to combat criminal activity and respond quickly to keep our communities secure,” Havard said.
Both suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
