Two individuals were arrested in separate incidents by the Sabine County Sheriff’s Office on July 22, 2025, following traffic stops that led to narcotics-related charges—one of whom is a Jasper resident.
During the evening hours, deputies initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of FM 944 and Nickols Creek in Hemphill. The driver, identified as Charles Cody Rhodes, 39, of Hemphill, was taken into custody for multiple traffic violations. Upon questioning, Rhodes admitted to having contraband hidden in his pants. After being transported to the Sabine County Jail, he turned over approximately 20 grams of methamphetamine.
Rhodes was charged with Manufacture and Delivery of a Controlled Substance. Based on the quantity of meth found in his possession, his bond was set at $10,000.

Later that same night, deputies made another traffic stop near the intersection of State Highway 184 and McGraw Hill in Bronson. They made contact with Michelle Mae Hughes, 40, of Jasper, Texas. According to authorities, deputies noted a strong odor of marijuana from her vehicle and determined that Hughes was currently on probation.
A search of the vehicle uncovered a marijuana cigarette, a small amount of loose marijuana near the driver’s seat, and eventually—following a voluntary admission by Hughes—additional narcotics hidden in her pants. Hughes was transported to the Sabine County Jail, where 1.83 grams of methamphetamine was recovered.
She now faces charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance (more than 1 gram, but less than 4 grams) as well as possession of marijuana under four ounces. Her bonds were set at $15,000.

Both suspects remain in custody at the Sabine County Jail.
