JASPER, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety has welcomed its newest trooper to Jasper County. Trooper Sarah Evans will serve the region after graduating from the DPS Academy, where she earned one of the academy’s highest honors — the Mark J. Phebus Award.
Evans was recognized for her remarkable resilience and leadership during training. According to DPS, she consistently offered support and encouragement to her fellow trainees, demonstrating selflessness and an ability to inspire others — qualities the agency says are hallmarks of an effective leader.
“We are proud to welcome Trooper Evans to the DPS family,” the department said in its announcement. “Congratulations and welcome aboard.”
The Mark J. Phebus Award is presented to a DPS recruit who exemplifies exceptional leadership, perseverance, and commitment to the success of their peers. Named in honor of Trooper Mark J. Phebus, who died in the line of duty in 1990, the award is one of the most prestigious recognitions a cadet can receive at the DPS Academy.
