POLK COUNTY, Texas — What started as a routine traffic stop on Halloween night turned into a major narcotics bust and firearms seizure, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
On October 31, 2025, a Narcotics K9 Detective pulled over a vehicle for a violation of the Texas Transportation Code. During the conversation roadside, the driver didn’t exactly play it cool — investigators say he voluntarily admitted he had “a large quantity of meth” stashed in a locked toolbox in the bed of his truck and also stated he was armed with a pistol.

Detectives conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle, which resulted in the discovery of approximately one-quarter kilogram (about 250 grams) of methamphetamine.
That wasn’t the end of it.
Based on information obtained at the scene, investigators secured a search warrant for the suspect’s residence. During the execution of that warrant, deputies located additional quantities of methamphetamine along with multiple firearms, including rifles, shotguns, handguns, and high-capacity weapons. All narcotics and weapons were seized and logged into evidence.

The suspect, John Todd Jr., was arrested and charged with:
Manufacture and Delivery of a Controlled Substance PG1 >200g <400g (a first-degree felony)
Additional charges are expected as the investigation continues.
Sheriff Lyons and Chief Lowrie stated that removing illegal narcotics and firearms from the community continues to be a priority, emphasizing that proactive enforcement “protects our citizens and children from dangerous criminal activity.”
This case remains under investigation.
