Toddler hit by van in Buna, transported to St. Elizabeth for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries

A Buna child is recovering tonight from what could have been a deadly incident.

According to the report from the Department of Public Safety, at 4:59 pm, an adult and a one-year-old child were walking on Cr 642 in Buna.

The initial report was that a van was traveling east and struck the child and left the scene, however additional information has now been released.

DPS Media Sergeant Shana Clark said, "Further investigation revealed that the vehicle is a 2022 Ram medical van, and that the child was struck in the center of the roadway. It is reported that the driver made contact with persons at the residence after impact and exchanged information prior to leaving and law enforcement was notified later."

The child was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the van, identified as 56-year-old Terry Breaux of Buna, was not injured.

This is an active and ongoing investigation, and no further information is available at this time. We will update our readers as more information becomes available.
