Thousands Without Power Across East Texas Following Overnight Storms

Local communities across the area are waking up to power outages this morning following last night’s round of storms. Crews from Jasper-Newton Electric Cooperative (JNEC) and Deep East Texas Electric Cooperative (DETEC) are working hard to restore electricity to homes and businesses still in the dark.

Jasper-Newton Electric Cooperative (JNEC) Outages

As of early Tuesday, JNEC is reporting:

  • Jasper County: 1,900 customers without power (12.5%)

  • Newton County: 1,800 customers out (31.7%)

  • Angelina County: 112 customers out (7.7%)

  • Sabine County: 20 customers out (80.0%)

  • Orange County: 8 customers out (0.7%)

So far, no restorations have been reported in Jasper or Sabine counties, and only a few in Newton.

Deep East Texas Electric Cooperative (DETEC) Outages

DETEC is also reporting widespread issues, including:

  • Sabine County: 408 customers without power (4.1%)

  • Nacogdoches County: 18 customers out (0.2%)

  • San Augustine County: 105 customers out (1.7%)

  • Jasper County: 101 customers out (4.4%)

  • Newton County: 712 customers out (35.8%)

Lineworkers from both co-ops have been deployed since the early morning hours, addressing downed power lines, broken poles, and trees across roadways. Many of the outages were caused by falling limbs and wind damage, especially in more rural and heavily wooded areas.

Both utilities are reminding residents to:

  • Report any new outages via their cooperative’s mobile app or website.

  • Avoid all downed lines—assume they are live and dangerous.

  • Use portable generators safely and never indoors or near open windows.

With additional storms in the forecast Wednesday and Thursday, restoration efforts may face delays. Residents in the hardest-hit areas should be prepared for extended outages over the next 24–48 hours.
