The City of Kirbyville is in the midst of beginning several new projects to benefit the citizens.
Kirbyville Mayor Frank George said that the City has several projects going on right now. "We have the new Elizabeth St. water tower that should start going up next week. The cost of it is around 2.6 million dollars. We also have a project going on at the waste water plant that calls for rebuilding the drying bed and redoing the canopy over them . The cost of this is half a million."
David Littlefield, owner of Littlefield Dozer LLC, will be working on the waste water plant project on Monday. Littlefield has been contracted on a number of projects here in Kirbyville in recent years.
George said that the current Pin Oak Creek drainage project is to create a retention pond and clean a portion of the creek and the main drain from Pin Oak to West Main Street. There is also a city wide sewer line project that will start soon to the tune of 1.34 million dollars.
The City has also received two new grants in the amount of 1.5 million dollars and 1/2 million dollars that will be used the redo the sewer line man hole and lift stations city wide.
The financial means for all of these projects were derived from various grants. The water tower is partially funded by grant help from Pct 3 Commissioner Willie Stark and the Jasper County Commissioners Court. George said that Stark allowed the city to use a grant for 2.2 million dollars and the city will pay the balance of the 2.6 million dollars.
