Texas Rangers release statement regarding this mornings fatal shooting in Jasper

At the request of the Jasper Police Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), Texas Ranger Division, is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred today, June 4, 2024.


The preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 5 a.m., Jasper Police Officers, with the assistance of a DPS Special Agent with the Criminal Investigations Division, served a search warrant at a residence in the 100 block of Parker Drive. It is reported that when two Jasper Police Officers made entry and were clearing the house, a suspect began firing at them and shot one of the officers in his ballistic vest. Both officers returned fire, and the shooter was shot and killed.


The officer was transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.


This is an active and ongoing investigation. Once the investigation is complete, all information will be transferred to the Jasper County District Attorney’s Office for review.
