The National Weather Service in Lake Charles is warning residents across Southeast Texas and Acadiana to prepare for a mix of intense heat and periodic storms throughout the upcoming week.
A disturbance pushing into the area today (Sunday) is expected to spark showers and thunderstorms, some capable of producing brief torrential downpours that may lead to localized flooding. Forecasters say the highest rain chances will occur through Tuesday, before an upper-level ridge builds later in the week, bringing drier but hotter conditions.
By Friday, heat indices could climb to around 105 degrees, making it essential to stay hydrated and take frequent breaks if spending time outdoors.
Today’s forecast calls for partly sunny skies with highs in the lower to mid-90s and south winds of 5 to 10 mph this afternoon. Rain chances today remain marginal, but a flash flood outlook is in place for Acadiana due to possible short-lived heavy rainfall.
Safety reminders from the National Weather Service:
If you hear thunder, head indoors
Never drive through flooded roads
Drink plenty of water and avoid prolonged sun exposure
