NEWTON COUNTY, Texas – A suspect tied to a recent rash of burglaries in Newton County is now behind bars following a joint effort by the Newton Police Department and the Newton County Sheriff’s Office.

Over the past several days, investigators have been tracking a series of burglaries reported in both the City of Newton and the Bon Wier community. After following up on leads, officers identified Jacob Paul Wiltz as the suspect.

Newton Police secured multiple warrants for Wiltz, and officers and deputies coordinated a search effort to bring him in. That search ended Thursday morning when Wiltz was located and arrested at a motel in Jasper. He was transported back to Newton County and booked into the county jail.

Authorities confirmed that Wiltz will face additional charges as the investigation moves forward.

Sheriff Colton Havard commended the work of both agencies and made it clear his office will continue pursuing those who threaten the community:

“I am committed to protecting the property that the citizens of Newton County work hard for,” Sheriff Havard said.

Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity as the investigation continues.
