Spurger Athletics on Fire: Tennis and Softball Teams Advance in Postseason Play

It’s a big week for Spurger ISD as both the Tennis and Softball teams are charging forward in the postseason, bringing pride and momentum to Pirate Nation.

The Spurger Tennis Team made waves at the District Tournament held April 23 in Woodville, with multiple athletes securing top finishes and advancing to Regionals:
Girls Singles: Summer Merritt placed 2nd and is headed to Regionals; Savannah Brooker placed 3rd.
Boys Singles: Kade Simpson placed 2nd, also advancing to Regionals; Joshua Grissom earned 3rd place.
Mixed Doubles: Kiley Crain and Joseph Fielder claimed 1st place, while Citori Stakes and Landen Hooks placed 2nd—both teams advance to Regionals.
The Tennis team will compete at Rudder High School in Bryan, Texas on Wednesday & Thursday, May 7–8, 2025.

The Spurger Lady Pirates Softball Team is also making headlines after a thrilling three-game series win over Medina in the Area Round:
Game 1: Spurger wins 8–6
Game 2: Medina edges out 6–5
Game 3: Spurger seals the series 5–4
With the Area Championship secured, the Lady Pirates now move on to the Regional Semi-Final against Hull-Daisetta.
The Softball team will compete at Big Sandy High School in Dallardsville, TX on Thursday, May 8, 2025 at 6:30 PM.
