Slight Tropical Development Monitored in Bay of Campeche; Sunny, Hot Weather Continues Locally Today and Saturday

Source: NWS Lake Charles, LA

As we roll into the final Friday of June, the National Hurricane Center is keeping an eye on an area of disturbed weather currently stretching from the northwestern Caribbean Sea into adjacent land areas. Forecasters expect this system to move west-northwest into the Bay of Campeche by Saturday or Saturday night.

While there is a slight potential for a low-pressure area to develop if the disturbance remains over water, chances of tropical cyclone formation are relatively low — 10% within 48 hours and 20% over seven days.

At this time, the good news is that no impacts are expected for our area, but the update is a timely reminder that hurricane season is active and far from over. According to the National Weather Service, we’re about one-sixth of the way through hurricane season already — with the busiest months, August and September, still ahead.
