Single vehicle rollover took the life of one man

Kirbyville Volunteer Fire Department, Kirbyville Police, Jasper County Sheriff's Department and The Texas Department of Public Safety were all called to the scene of a single vehicle roll-over fatality accident South of Kirbyville at around 3:30 pm Saturday afternoon. It happened on U.S. Highway 96, near County Road 588.

A 2001 Dodge pickup was traveling south on Hwy 96 near the Gateway Tabernacle Church. It is reported that the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed and traveled off the road to the right to avoid striking the rear of a commercial motor vehicle. The pickup traveled into the ditch and overturned. 

The driver was pronounced deceased on scene by Justice of the Peace Gina Cleveland. Their information is not immediately available pending notification of their next of kin.
