Emergency crews were dispatched early Thursday morning to a reported single-vehicle crash near the Dam B Bridge on U.S. Highway 190.
According to Beech Grove Volunteer Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched at approximately 12:36 a.m. after a caller reported a crash and advised that the driver appeared to be intoxicated.
Upon arrival, BGVFD units — along with deputies from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office — located the vehicle on the Tyler County side of the bridge. No occupants were found inside or near the vehicle, and a search of the surrounding area did not locate a driver.
Investigators determined the vehicle had been traveling eastbound when it went behind a concrete barricade, entered an active construction zone near the traffic signal, and came to rest on top of a large pile of rocks. Authorities said the driver attempted to leave the scene, but the truck became high-centered and could not be moved.
The Texas Department of Public Safety – Southeast Texas Region responded and handled the investigation. The vehicle was later removed from the scene by a towing service.
BGVFD responded with Engine 11 and four firefighters. No injuries were reported.
The incident remains under investigation.
