Silsbee man arrested in Buna for DWI, drugs, and weapons charges

BUNA, Texas — Jasper County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a Silsbee man Friday night after responding to a trespassing call in the Buna area that led to multiple criminal charges.
According to Sheriff Chuck Havard, Deputies Harrell and Hoke were dispatched to a county road near Buna on October 17 in reference to a trespasser. When they arrived, they located the subject inside a vehicle parked along the road.
The driver was identified as Joshua Champaign, 38, of Silsbee. Deputies said they developed probable cause to believe Champaign was intoxicated, and he was taken into custody at the scene.
During an inventory search of the vehicle, deputies reportedly discovered multiple narcotics as well as two handguns. Champaign was transported to the Jasper County Jail, where he was booked on the following charges:
Driving While Intoxicated > .15 (B Misdemeanor)
Possession of a Controlled Substance PG2 < 1 Gram (State Jail Felony)
Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon (A Misdemeanor)
Champaign remains innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
Sheriff Havard emphasized that he and his staff remain committed to combating criminal activity throughout Jasper County and thanked the deputies involved for their continued vigilance in protecting local communities.
