A retired Kirbyville couple had an unusual day, to say the least.
James and Gladys Sheffield live on West Lavielle St. in Kirbyville were experiencing some sewer issues so they called the City to come out and look at it for them.
The City sent a worker out to service the Sheffield's sewer line which was right next to the house. James said, "They were out here working on the sewer line here next to the house and he poured something in it. The next thing I knew, there was an explosion with fire coming from my sewer!"
The sewer was being serviced by Ryan Gilley of the City of Kirbyville. Gilley said, "The sewer wasn't flowing well, so we added some degreaser to it. It was the same thing we always use, but when we poured it in the drain, it exploded. It could have mixed with a chemical they use or something. I just don't really know. We used it in the house right down the road this week, and it did just fine."
Thankfully, the damage was limited, and no one was injured in the blast.
