Severe Storms Leave Thousands Without Power Across East Texas

Severe weather moving through East Texas Monday night has caused widespread power outages across multiple electric cooperatives.
Jasper-Newton Electric Cooperative (JNEC)
Newton County – 990 members out, representing 17.2% of customers.
Jasper County – 305 members out, about 2%.
Sabine County – All 22 members remain without power.
Deep East Texas Electric Cooperative (DETEC)
Sabine County – 1,400 members out (13.9%).
Shelby County – 333 members out (2.8%).
San Augustine County – 11 members out (0.2%).
Newton County – 1,000 members out, more than 50% of customers in the county.
Sam Houston Electric Cooperative (SHECO)
Reporting 54 members without power across its service area, including Jasper County.
The largest single outage at this time affects 50 members, reported at 9:53 p.m., with an estimated restoration time of midnight.
Utility crews have been dispatched across the region and continue restoration efforts as weather conditions allow.
Residents are urged to avoid downed lines, report hazardous conditions, and monitor their co-op’s outage maps for real-time updates.
