JASPER COUNTY, Texas — Ray Lewis has formally announced his candidacy for Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1, in the upcoming 2026 election. Lewis says he hopes to bring integrity, accessibility, and common-sense leadership to the office if elected.

“With deep roots in our community and a lifelong commitment to fairness and service, I’m ready to serve as a full-time Justice of the Peace who is available whenever I’m needed,” Lewis said in a statement to the East Texas Banner.

He highlighted the size and diversity of Precinct 1, which includes more than 35 churches, over 10 apartment complexes, numerous rental properties, and several subdivisions — as well as facilities like Harbor Hospice, Christus Jasper Hospital, Timber Ridge Health & Rehab Center, and Wrightway Assisted Living.

“Having a full-time Justice of the Peace is not just important, it’s necessary,” he said. “This isn’t just about holding a position — it’s about serving neighbors, friends, and families with integrity and a heart for our community.”

Lewis added that he is committed to handling each case with “compassion and understanding, while upholding the rule of law to maintain fairness and justice for all.”

The 2026 Texas primary elections are scheduled for March 3, 2026, with the general election set for November 3, 2026.
