JASPER — Residents interested in a career in law enforcement will soon have a local opportunity to get started, as Angelina College brings its Basic Peace Officer Course back to Jasper this spring.
The next part-time police academy is set to begin March 16, 2026, and will be hosted at the Deep East Texas College and Career Academy (DETCCA) campus in Jasper.
According to Sheriff Chuck Havard, the program is a critical step toward strengthening local law enforcement agencies with homegrown officers.
“We are very grateful and appreciative of Angelina College’s willingness to provide this training again here in Jasper,” Havard said. “The academy will start on March 16th, so any applicant wanting to pursue a career in law enforcement will need to immediately start the enrollment process. It is imperative that we have local people joining one of our local law enforcement agencies, and we are looking forward to working with Angelina College again.”
