Pennsylvania Shooting Leaves 3 Officers Dead, 2 Critically Injured

NORTH CODORUS TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A tragic shooting in Pennsylvania has left three law enforcement officers dead and two others critically wounded after a violent confrontation with a wanted suspect.
Authorities say officers were attempting to arrest 24-year-old Matthew James Ruth on allegations of stalking, prowling, and trespassing when he opened fire. The incident unfolded in York County’s North Codorus Township during the execution of an arrest operation.
Ruth fired on officers, fatally striking three before being shot and killed at the scene. Two additional officers remain in critical condition.
The fallen officers have been identified as:
Sergeant Michael Becker
Lieutenant Michael Bayer
Officer Sean Emertheiser
All three were part of the York County law enforcement community and are being remembered for their dedication to service and sacrifice.
This shooting has been described as one of the deadliest attacks on law enforcement in Pennsylvania’s history. Leaders from across the nation have expressed condolences and pledged support for the grieving families.
Flags are expected to be lowered across Pennsylvania in honor of the officers.
