One vehicle fiery crash north of Kirbyville injured two, one seriously

Just after 4 this morning, Kirbyville Volunteer Fire Department, Kirbyville Police, and the Department of Public Safety were called out to a one vehicle accident north of Kirbyville on Hwy 96, near Cr 482.


According to dispatch, a single vehicle was discovered upside down in a ditch and was on fire. At that time it was unknown if anyone was trapped inside the car.


DPS Media Sergeant Shana Clark said, "The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 4:20 a.m., a 2006 Chevrolet passenger car was traveling south. It is reported that the driver fell asleep and traveled off the road to the right, where he struck culvert and overturned. After impact the vehicle caught fire."


The driver was transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, however the passenger was flown to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment of possible life-threatening-injuries. Their information is not immediately available.
