Less than 24 hours after warrants were issued in connection to the Roganville Church burglary, Gavyn R. Deaton, 20, of Lufkin, was taken into custody by deputies with the Angelina County Sheriff’s Office.
The arrest occurred around 12:45 p.m. Thursday afternoon, when authorities stopped Deaton in Angelina County. He was arrested without incident and is now facing multiple felony burglary charges, including:
Three counts of Burglary of a Building (State Jail Felony) for the June 19th burglary of three buildings on the Roganville church property in Jasper County.
Additional burglary charges pending in Angelina County.
According to Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard, authorities are currently working through the extradition process to transfer Deaton back to Jasper County.
“I would like to thank Sheriff Tom Selman and the Angelina County Sheriff’s Office for their swift action in placing this individual in custody,” Sheriff Havard said. “We will have him back in Jasper County as quick as we can.”
As previously reported, the Roganville church burglary involved significant damage to the property and the theft of multiple items, some of which have since been recovered. A 16-year-old local juvenile is also facing charges in connection to the case and is expected to turn himself in soon.
