On-duty Jasper Police Officer and Jasper woman were both injured in crash


The Texas Department of Public Safety and Jasper Police Department are investigating a crash on U.S. Highway 96, just south of Houston Street, that occurred today, November 4.

The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 3:23 p.m., a 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe Jasper police unit was traveling north with its emergency lights and sirens activated while assisting with a funeral procession. It is reported that the driver of a 2004 Chevrolet 2500 pulled from a parking lot in front of the police unit when the vehicles struck. After the collision, the patrol unit overturned in the southbound lane.

The driver of the police unit, identified as 38-year-old Robert Twine, was transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Chevrolet 2500, identified as 76-year-old Suzanna Richards of Jasper, was transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital and then airlifted to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

This is an ongoing investigation, and no further information is available.
