Officer Involved Shooting left one dead near Newton

Information at this time is limited, but what we do know is that a Newton County Deputy has shot and killed a man during a traffic stop around 5 pm Friday night on Hwy 190 near Newton.

The Department of Public Safety Media Sergeant Shana Clark said, "I can confirm that at the request of the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, the Texas Rangers are investigating an officer involved shooting in which a suspect was shot and killed."

It is common practice in any officer involved shooting that the Texas Rangers are called in to investigate. Until the investigation is completed, information will be limited. We will update our readers as more information becomes available.
