Obituary of Shirley Reynolds Whitton

Shirley Jean Whitton, 83, of Montgomery, passed away Thursday, September 4, 2025 at her residence in Montgomery, Texas.


Visitation will be on Sunday, September 7, 2025 beginning at 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. service time at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home Chapel in Woodville with burial to follow in Hall Cemetery in Thicket, Texas. Officiating will be Harold Dishongh. Serving as pallbearers will be Gary Whitton, Terry Smart, Eli Smart, Justin Watson, Dawson Densley, and Justin Lumpkin.


Shirley was born August 24, 1942 to Bowie Andrew Reynolds and Rachel Florene Nichols. She was a strong woman who loved Jesus and her family, and she often said that she loved Jesus first and then her family. She loved playing the guitar and singing with her husband who played the harmonica. They loved doing specials in church. She also enjoyed crocheting, writing poems, riding in the boat, fishing, and playing games with her family.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Bowie and Rachel Reynolds; husband of 42 years, Robert Jarrell Whitton; sons, Donald Eugene Graham and Jimmy Lynn Graham: great-granddaughter, Stacy Choate: brothers, Michael Wayne Reynolds, Merl Newton Reynolds, David Carl Reynolds, and Jerry Lynn Reynolds.


She is survived by her daughter, Tammy Alyne Whitton Smart of Montgomery; son, Gary Wayne Whitton and wife, Sara of Scurry; sisters, Geraldine Barr and husband, Rayburn of Zachary, LA and Maxine Whitton of Sunnyvale, TX; brother, Verlin Gene Reynolds and wife, Cindy of Mesquite; 9 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and soon-to-be great-great-grandson, Oscar Marshall Densley.


Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Woodville, Texas.
