Patricia (Pat) Iris Chance, 88, of Jasper, Texas, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 13, 2025.
Born on April 3, 1937, she was the daughter of Bill and Gladys (Heathcoat) Herriage. Pat enjoyed celebrating holidays and delighted in gathering both immediate and extended family and friends around her table. Her home was always open for fellowship, enjoying meals and even a domino game or two. She adored horses and rode her favorite, Babe, on many trail rides and among the trails on her property pointing out the beautiful foliage along the way. Pat enjoyed traveling and seeing new sites, even asking during her final months to go on a trip!
Pat along with her husband, Dan Chance Sr., owned Chance Lumber Yard in Vidor. She was one of the first women to receive her realtor license while living in Vidor. After moving to Jasper, she and Dan opened Dan Chance Insurance Agency in downtown Jasper on the square.
Pat led a life with deep faith and was always ready to share The Good News of her Savior with others. For decades, she led the Missionettes at Jasper Assembly of God Church, starting the program from scratch. Most recently she was member at Camp Freedom Church in which the original site known as Serenity Hills Camp, was Pat’s vision with the purpose to provide a church camp for youth to enjoy and come to know the Lord.
Pat is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and brother Archie Herriage.
She is survived by her sister Arlene Achord; son, Dan Chance Jr and wife Mae, foster son Melvin Riddick and wife Linda; granddaughter Danielle Chance; great grandson Joshua Chance, and other loving family and friends.
Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Jasper.
