Obituary of Lawana Dell Stephenson

July 24, 1940 - November 10, 2025

A Celebration of Lawana Dell Stephenson’s Life, age 85, of Hemphill, Texas, will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 21, 2025 at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper, Texas with burial to follow at Fairmont Cemetery in the Fairmont Community of Sabine County. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., Thursday, November 20, 2025 at the funeral home.

Lawana passed away on Monday, November 10, 2025 at her home in Hemphill, Texas surrounded by her loving family.

A native of Wilson, Oklahoma, former resident of Beaumont, Texas, Lawana has lived in the Hemphill area since 1989.

She was a graduate of Wilson High School in 1958, where she was the Salutatorian of her class. She then married her husband, Steve on July 11, 1958 in Wilson, Oklahoma.

Lawana took her real estate test in Texas as well as California and was in real estate from 1980 to 1990. She then was employed in the Medical Records Department for CHRISTUS Jasper Memorial until her retirement.

Lawana kept a photo log of all her children and grandchildren. Her family was very special to her. She was a great cook.

Lawana is survived by her husband of 67 years, Steve M. Stephenson of Hemphill, Texas; daughters, Susan Bainter and husband, Terry, of Justin, Texas, Sandra Lowe of Denver, Colorado, and Staci Dart of Hemphill, Texas; brother, Cloyce McKee & wife Carol of Oklahoma City, Oklahama; sister, Glenna Elkins of Englewood, Tennessee; grandchildren, Devan Dart, Kali Prince, Erica Brooks and Cheryl Bainter and seven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Willie McKee; brother Monte McKee and sisters, Nancy McKee and Shirley Herner.
