John R. Meadors was born on February 18, 1947, in Pasadena, Texas, to Sadie Fay Friday Meadors. He passed away peacefully, in Trinity, Texas on November, 29, 2025.

At the age of eight, John's life took a turn when his mother married Jodie McQueen, an Airman in the United States Air Force. Due to Jodie’s military career, the family moved often throughout Texas, relocating approximately every two years as required by military assignments.

In 1966, at just 19 years old, John joined the United States Navy. After completing boot camp, he was assigned to Norfolk, Virginia, where he attended communication school. His next post was aboard the USS Intrepid (CV-11), an aircraft carrier, serving in the Radio Department. John earned Top Secret clearance and worked in the crypto room. During his time in the Navy, he completed two cruises to Vietnam. His service concluded in 1970 with an honorable discharge.

John began his career with TDCJ in May of 1970. Through dedication and hard work, he rose through the ranks to become Personnel Lieutenant, later reclassified as Human Resources Manager I. After retiring with 27 years and 6 months of service, John returned to TDC for two additional years as a recruiter for OCS-ID. He gave ten more years of dedicated work before fully retiring.

On July 21, 1990, John married Elaine Meadors, the love of his life. Their marriage was filled with love and lasted for the remainder of John's life. John was a proud, long-time member of both the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).

John was preceded in death by his parents Sadie Fay and Jodie McQueen, his stepbrother Michael McQueen and stepsister Angela Johnson. He is survived by his loving wife, Elaine Meadors; sister Joan Helton, widow of Charles Helton, and brother-in-law Kenneth Johnson of Crockett, Texas. John also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, each of whom was cherished by him.

John will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to service, his deep love for family, and his loyalty to all who knew him. He will be dearly missed by those left behind to cherish his memory and to protect his legacy.
