Jean was born on September 11, 1935, in Big Sandy, Texas, to Thomas Abney and Ruby Alice Luther Long. A longtime resident of Tyler County, she retired as office manager for Dr. James Jinnette’s dental practice, where she truly loved working. She was also a devoted founding member of Calvary Baptist Church in Woodville where she also enjoyed singing in the choir.

Jean took great pride in maintaining a warm and tidy home. She cherished time spent with her family, especially her sisters, as well as her friends and church family. She enjoyed crocheting and found joy in creating things for others. Jean loved being outside, whether gardening, walking 2 miles every day after work, or just relaxing on her porch. Jean loved serving others by delivering meals to those who were homebound. Jean always found blessings in life and had a very strong sense of faith that guided her daily. She also had a wonderful sense of humor that brought light and laughter to those around her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Abney and Ruby Alice Long; her first husband of 35 years, Marvin Glenn Coward; her second husband of 11 years, Billy Mack “Bill” Miller; her son, Glenn Hamilton Coward; granddaughter, Laura Ann Carter; and sisters, Alice Naomi Haynes, Emma Kathleen Mashaw, and Bertha Estelle Sanders.

Jean is survived by her daughter, Beverly Carter of Woodville; sister, Grace Earlene Sanders of Huntington; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Read Coward of Lampasas; stepson, Jim Miller and wife Cindy of Cypress; and grandchildren: Jennifer Shirley and husband Michael of The Woodlands, Bret Coward and wife Mindy of Lampasas, Sara Dorris and husband Chris of Bixby, OK, Adam Coward and wife Jacky of Spring, Reagan Carter of The Woodlands, step-granddaughter Stacey Robertson of Sweeny, and step-grandson Micah Miller and wife Sybianna of Houston. She is also survived by many great-grandchildren: Ryan Carter, Kate Dorris, Molly Dorris, Jack Dorris, Sam Dorris, Luke Dorris, Casey Mitchell, Tyler Mitchell, Makenzie Mitchell, Ledger Coward, Caroline Shirley, Cayson Whitt, Caitlin Cargill, Masen Robertson, Ronin Miller, and Thurman Miller.

The family extends their deepest thanks to Jim and Cindy Miller for their exceptional kindness and the vital support they provided during Jean’s later years. Their help eased many burdens and brought comfort and strength when it was needed most.
