James Kenneth was born to Cecil and Lorena Stringer on December 4, 1944, the oldest of three sons. Cecil was a hardworking, devoted family man who read his Bible nightly. Lorena had the gift of hospitality. She loved God, and introduced her sons to Him at an early age.
Kenneth was a graduate of Hornbeck High School and often spoke fondly of those days. Upon graduation he attended Northwestern University where he was a member of the Military Drill Team. It was there he decided to enlist in the US Air Force where he served proudly, obtaining the rank of sergeant. After receiving an honorable discharge, he obtained employment with Texaco Refinery in the communications department. He remained there 16 years and then finished out his career at Ft. Polk Military Base, also in the communications department.
Kenneth enjoyed fishing, vacationing and visiting with friends, but his passions were his family, church and music. He found it difficult to say, “No,” to Mrs. Brenda and spoiled her completely. While Keith was a boy scout, Kenneth served
as scout master using his vacation time for camps and events. He was a room parent for Kena’s class and was not intimidated to be the only father of the group. He often enjoyed playfully entertaining her and her BFF, Sherrie Chesser. As for the grandchildren, they were adored. He spoke of their beauty, intelligence and talents to anyone he could trap into listening.
Kenneth had a God-given talent for music and love for the church. This combination led to life-long enjoyment of service in music ministry. His clear tenor voice will be missed by many. God also blessed him with the gift of service, and he found great pleasure in helping others.
In a few words, Kenneth was a Christian family man, who loved his family, church and friends deeply. A man who gave freely and served with joy. His earthly presence will be greatly missed.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Lorena Stringer of Hornbeck, LA; and brother, Tommy Stringer of Oaklyn, NJ.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Brenda Stringer of Woodville; son, Keith Stringer and wife Sandra of Sour Lake, TX; daughter, Kena Mahan and husband Michael of Spurger, TX; brother, Patrick Stringer and wife Jamie of Hornbeck, LA; sisters-in-law, Lynnie Stringer Voza and husband Al of Oaklyn, NJ, Linda Robison and husband Terry of Anacoco, LA, and Carliss “Snooks” Siebe of Newton, TX; brother-in-law, Billie Herring and wife Melody of Vidor, TX; grandchildren, Tori Biddle, Kirsten Landry and husband Bert, Kaylyn “K.K.” Loving, Michala MacKenzie and husband Chance, James Kash Stringer, and Katerine Belle “Katie” Mahan; great grandchildren, Kase and Klaire Landry, and Lynnox MacKenzie; extended Family, Tammy Christopher and husband Stanley, and Lesa Lasneski and husband Dale; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
