Graveside celebration of the life of J.B. Goodwin, age 82, of Jasper, Texas, will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 11, 2025, at the Homer Cemetery in Jasper, Texas.
J.B. passed away on Monday, September 8, 2025, at CHI St. Luke’s Hospital in Lufkin, Texas surrounded by his loving family.
A native and former resident of Lufkin, Texas, J.B. had been a resident of Jasper, Texas for 30 years and was a 1961 graduate of Hudson High School. After graduation he joined the United States Navy and spent his 18th birthday in Boot Camp at San Diego, California. After service he then went to work for the Lufkin Police Department and retired after 27 years of service as a Deputy Chief. During his employment with the Lufkin Police Department, he also attended training at the FBI national academy in Quantico, Virginia in 1974. After retirement from the Lufkin Police Department, J.B. worked for the Chandler Law Firm in Lufkin, Texas for ten years.
J.B. enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading and spending time with his family and friends. He loved his Lord and working in the Church.
J.B. is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Julia Parker Goodwin of Jasper, Texas; sister, Ruby Goodwin Hemingway and husband Joe of Lampasas, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends
He was preceded in death by his parents, Burl and Mary Oliver Goodwin; brother, Jimmy Goodwin and his precious son Jonathan Goodwin.
