Obituary of Hue D. Gilchriest

February 24, 1941 - November 14, 2025

Hue D. Gilchriest, 84, of Buna died Friday, November 14, 2025 at St. Lukes The Woodlands Hospital.

Funeral service will be 10:00 am Friday, November 21, at Buna United Pentecostal Church with burial at Antioch Cemetery under the direction of Adams EE Stringer Funeral Home in Buna. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm Thursday at the funeral home.

A native of Bessmay, Texas, he was a lifelong resident of Buna and was a retired boilermaker/welder for North Star Steel.

He is survived by his wife, Ernestine Gilchriest; children, Chris Gilchriest and Karen of Jasper; Scottie Gilchriest and Veronica of Buna; Greg Gilchriest of Buna; Pamela Sterling of Buna; Jana Davidson and Gerald of Cleveland; Jamie Smith and Mawrgie of Lumberton; and Ynette Shultze of Colorado; brothers, David Gilchriest of Jasper; Keith Gilchriest of Buna; and Doyle Wayne Gilchriest of Kirbyville; 18 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren; and 6 great-great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Otis Gilchriest, Jr. and Marie (Bryant) Gilchriest; brother, Doylin Gilchriest; sisters, Dianne Gray, Sherry Carrell, Linda Barbre, Gayle Curtis, Moniuca "Penny" Petty; and a son-in-law, Dennis Shutlze.
