A Celebration of Gene Allen Swain, Sr.’s Life, age 82, of Burkeville, Texas, will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at the Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home Chapel in Burkeville, Texas with burial to follow at Sycamore Cemetery in Burkeville. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at the Funeral Home.


Gene passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital in Jasper, Texas.


Gene was born on March 16, 1943 to Gilbert and Ruth LaCaze Swain in Evans, Louisiana. He joined the United States Air Force in May of 1961 and retired in June of 1981 after twenty years of service. He then began his second career in the local Building Material and Hardware Industry and served this area for a great many years. Gene was an avid gardener, outgoing social butterfly and a Fountain of Knowledge. From the time he went to school until late in life he was an avid sports fan. He loved playing, coaching, refereeing and all things sports related for all ages and groups.


Gene is survived by his wife of 62 years, Caroline Swain of Burkeville, Texas; Son, Gene Allen Swain, II of Burkeville, Texas; daughter, Sonia Swain of Burkeville, Texas; grandchildren, Brittany Swain of Lompoc, CA, Christopher Swain of Buffalo, NY and Matthew Swain of Buffalo, NY; siblings, Patricia Cooley of Evans, LA, George Swain of Evans, LA, Sarah Welch of Anacoco, LA, Jay Swain of Evans, LA.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Ruth LaCaze Swain and his brother David Swain.


Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Jasper.
