Barbara Gene Johnson, 89, of Houston, passed away on October 13, 2025.
Born in Lufkin, Texas, to Henry and Gertia Mahan, she was raised in Beaumont, Texas, where she graduated from French High School. She married the love of her life, Bobby Johnson, and they lived in Beaumont until they were transferred to Houston in 1985.
She loved her family very much and was always available to help with whatever was needed. Her grandchildren were very special to her, and they loved her dearly. She was always excited to see her great-grandson, Kyler, and she made sure he had a gift waiting for him on the coffee table. She loved reading, gardening, sewing, cross-stitching, and especially buying shoes.
Her last few months were tough for her, but we know she is with the Lord, and they are walking together in heaven’s beautiful gardens.
Preceding her in death were her husband of 63 years, Robert (Bobby) Johnson, her parents, Henry and Gertia Mahan, her brother Hulen Mahan, and numerous others.
Barbara is survived by her loving family, sons Jamie Johnson and David Johnson, Daughter Becky Kelly, and sons-in-law Pat Kelly and David Steward; grandsons, Patrick, Michael, Aaron, and his wife Nicole; great-grandson Kyler, and precious nieces, cousins, and other extended family members.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at 11 am at the Egypt Cemetery in Colmesneil, Texas.
Serving as pallbearers will be Pat Kelly, David Steward, Patrick Kelly, Michael Kelly, Aaron Kelly, and Roy Traweek.
