***UPDATED***ACCIDENTAL SHOOTING INVESTIGATION – Tall Timbers, Toledo Bend:

On Friday, February 9, 2024, we interviewed both individuals involved in the accidental shooting.

The shooting victim is currently released from the hospital and is home recovering from his wound. We interviewed him and obtained his version of the incident that occurred on January 27, 2024.

No other action is anticipated at this time.


Original Press Release: On Saturday, January 27,2004 at 2151 hours, NCSO Dispatchers received a call of an accidental shooting that occurred in the 200 Block of Tall Timbers at Toledo Bend.

The Caller stated that she accidently shot her husband in the lower abdomen.

At 2117 hours, Deputies arrived on the scene. The victim was prepared for transport by Toledo Bend VFD First Responders. The victim was transported by Allegiance to Jasper Memorial Hospital. He was later transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital and is currently listed in

critical condition.


DRUG INTERDICTION – HWY 12 EAST, DEWYVILLE: On February 11, 2024,

during the midnight shift, Deputy Gilley was working traffic and stopped a 2022 Dodge Truck for an equipment violation. K9 Jack and Deputy Nash arrived on the scene to assist.

During the traffic stop K9 Jack preformed an open-air sniff of the vehicle. K9 Jack had a positive alert to vehicle.

A search was conducted and found drug paraphernalia and 1.57

GRAMS of a crystal-like substance that positive on a field test as Methamphetamine.

The driver and the passenger were taken into custody without incident.


Calls To Service (February 5, 2024, to February 11, 2024): 

The Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) answered 59 calls to service.


Jail Transports:

NCSO had 4 jail transports; 1 from NCSO to Dr Appointment, 1 from NCSO to Mental Health Facility, 2 from JCSO to NCSO.


Jail Population:  

We currently have 30 inmates in the following jails;

13 housed in Newton, 9 housed in Beauregard, and 8 housed in Jasper.
