Hopefully everyone had a great weekend! It’s been a busy week around the county. We were searching for Ryan Calvin Smith early last week. Although we were unable to locate him at that time, he turned himself in at the jail shortly after our search.
A big shout-out to former Newton County Deputy and South Newton County resident, Charles Holt! Last week, Mr. Holt donated a thermal monocular to the Sheriff’s Office to be issued to a patrol deputy. This state-of-the-art technology will be very beneficial to our deputies who are out on patrol.
On Saturday, we were in Kirbyville executing a search warrant at a residence in relation to the Josh Larkin missing person case. Another big shout-out to EquuSearch for bringing several pieces of equipment and 60–70 volunteers together to assist in the search. We located several items of interest that will be sent to a crime lab for DNA testing.
This morning, Sergeant Cagle responded to a call regarding a suspicious vehicle in Deweyville and recovered a stolen trailer out of Calcasieu Parish. One subject was arrested.
During the past week, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office responded to 56 calls for service and booked 8 individuals into the Newton County Jail. We currently have 28 inmates housed as follows: 14 in Jasper, 4 in Beauregard Parish, and 10 in the Newton County Jail.
I hope everyone has a great week, and please don’t hesitate to reach out if we can help.
