Happy New Year from the Newton County Sheriff’s Office. I want everyone to know it has been an honor and privilege to serve Newton County over the last year. This was our first year in office, and I could not be more proud of the staff here at the Sheriff’s Office for their dedication and hard work. As I look back on my first year in office, I am proud of the positive changes we have implemented within the Sheriff’s Office.
Friday night, deputies responded to a disturbance in Singletary Sites. When deputies arrived, the suspect, who had several outstanding warrants, fled on foot into a wooded area and was not immediately located. Saturday morning, deputies located the suspect, took him into custody, and transported him to jail.
Saturday afternoon, deputies responded to a disturbance in Deweyville off County Road 3131. While deputies were responding, additional information was received indicating that a handgun had been discharged during the incident. Upon arrival, deputies determined that during the course of the assault, the firearm discharged and
struck the female aggressor in the arm. She was treated at the scene by first responders and subsequently transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment of her injuries. Following her release, she was transported to the Newton County Jail.
During the past week, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office responded to 61 calls for service and booked 9 individuals into the Newton County Jail. We currently have 26 inmates housed in the following facilities: 9 in Jasper, 4 in Beauregard Parish, and 13 in the Newton County Jail.
